The mountain ranges Golija, Čemerno, Mučanj and Javor, with two river basins, Moravica and Studenica, represent the natural habitat of raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and currant. These fruit varieties have traditionally been picked on wild and steep mountain slopes. Once, berries were only picked in the wild, but when the demand for berries, due to their nutritive and healing properties, increased to the extent that nature alone, without human influence, could not provide sufficient supply, the farmers started creating cultivated plantations.
Ivanjica is the leader in raspberry production in Serbia. Raspberry of the highest quality in the world is produced in this region thanks to climactic factors, traditional knowledge on species growth, as well as serious studies and monitoring by Serbian institutes of pomology.
In the Ivanjica region, raspberries are planted on more than 1,500 hectares and they are grown on mountain slopes on altitudes between 800 and 1,300 meters.
This has significant influence on the quality of the berries. Water draining from the mountain tops during the vegetation period feeds the root system with natural moisture. Thanks to the slopes, there is no excessive moisture retention, which in addition to the breeze that naturally aerates the plants, prevents fungal diseases.
Trained staff is also an important part in the process of producing top quality raspberries with the best taste and look. Raspberries are increasingly being used as a medicine or as a prevention in the treatment of various diseases.
Nature in Ivanjica municipality provides the best conditions for growing raspberries of the best quality in the world: - Altitude between 800-1,300 meters - Slope 7-10% - Aeration thanks to gentle winds blowing during entire vegetation period - Irrigation from natural sources - Soil pH - Sun exposure
